At a time when energy related issues are so significant—national security, economic development and Green House Gas management—the university can serve as a neutral open forum for their discussion. The goal of the Series is to provide an objective, factual and comprehensive analysis of the Southeast’s energy and power requirements to 2030 and to examine the extent to which clean energy technologies can meet some of these demands.
The first session—an assessment of regional energy and power demand—will provide a context for the Series. In addition to demand, the Series will consider the conservation and efficiency, and several clean technologies in terms of scalability, cost, environmental footprint and availability for deployment. Some of the technology solutions to be considered are biomass conversion, solar, wind, nuclear and carbon capture and sequestration. The management of GHG’s will be considered as well. The intended outcome of this series will be a road map for energy and power sources and uses for the Southeast for the next 20 years.
